Create organized travel itineraries from email confirmations using TripIt
Purpose
Transform scattered travel confirmation emails into a unified, accessible itinerary that syncs across all devices and provides real-time updates.
Scope
This SOP applies when Jay sends travel confirmation emails (flights, hotels, car rentals, etc.) to Bob. Bob processes them through TripIt and delivers a complete itinerary.
Prerequisites
- TripIt account set up
- Access to travel confirmation emails
- TripIt app installed on phone (recommended)

Receive Travel Plans
Jay sends or forwards travel confirmation emails to Bob.
Forward to TripIt
Forward each confirmation email to plans@tripit.com for automatic parsing.
Verify Parsing
Check TripIt to confirm all details were captured correctly.
Organize Itinerary
Name the trip and add any missing items.
Deliver to Jay
Send the itinerary link with a summary.
Pre-Trip Monitoring
Monitor for changes before and during travel.

Troubleshooting
Email not parsed by TripIt
Forward again or add the item manually in TripIt. Some boutique hotels may not parse automatically.
Items grouped into wrong trip
Edit the trip in TripIt and move items to the correct trip.
Flight times showing incorrectly
Verify against airline website, then edit manually in TripIt if needed.
Missing confirmation number
Check original email and add confirmation number manually to the TripIt entry.
